Drywall Installation, Taping & Repair

Drywall installation and finishing in progress

Drywall is the surface you look at every day, so how well it's finished shows in every room. Smooth joints, straight corners and no ridges under the paint are what make a renovated room look like it was always that way. We hang, tape and finish drywall as part of basement finishing and renovation jobs, and we repair walls after leaks and floods. Zanini Renovations has been a fully insured carpentry and renovation business in Carleton Place since 2020.

Drywall services

New walls and ceilings. Hanging drywall on new framing in basements, additions, closets and bump-outs, including bulkheads around ducts and beams.

Taping, mudding and sanding. Taping joints, setting corner bead and building up coats of compound, then sanding to a smooth, paint-ready finish. In Perth, before building a custom fireplace mantel, we taped, mudded and sanded the surrounding wall so the paint would go on flawlessly.

Feature walls and fireplace bump-outs. Drywall is often the base for a finished feature. In a Carleton Place living room we built a clean drywall bump-out around a fireplace with a recessed niche, then trimmed it with a wood sill and wrapped baseboard.

Flood and leak repairs. After water damage, the wet drywall has to come out. In a Carleton Place basement we installed a 2 foot flood cut of new drywall through two rooms and a hallway. We taped and sanded it so it blends with the existing upper walls, and the new trim covered the bottom edge.

Smaller repairs. Holes, cracks, patches after a wall has been opened for wiring or pipes, and damaged corners. Send photos of your repair and we'll let you know how we can help.

Finish level and ceilings

Not every wall needs the same finish. A garage or utility room can stop at a basic taped finish, while a living room with big windows and raking light needs more coats and careful sanding to hide every joint. We'll agree on the finish for each area before we start, so there are no surprises when the paint goes on.

Dust control and cleanup

Sanding drywall makes fine dust that gets everywhere if nobody manages it. Before the job starts, we'll talk about how the work area will be closed off and kept clean. We keep the work area organized and clean it up at the end, so you're not living in a construction site.

How a drywall job works

  1. Look at the space. We check the framing, the size of the area, and any water damage or open wall cavities.
  2. Written estimate in Canadian dollars, labour-only or with materials.
  3. Prep. For repairs, damaged material comes out and the source of any water has to be fixed first. Insulation, vapour barrier and any required inspections come before boarding.
  4. Hang, tape and finish. Drywall compound needs drying time between coats, which is the main thing that sets the schedule.
  5. Prime and paint, if we've agreed on it in the quote.
  6. Cleanup.

You'll get a schedule with your quote. Workmanship is covered by our one-year limited warranty.

Electrical, plumbing and other trades

Drywall goes up after the rough-ins, and walls often get opened for wiring or pipes. That electrical and plumbing work is done by qualified, certified electricians and plumbers. We arrange them as part of the project and plan the drywall around their work, so the walls are closed up once they're finished.

Why hire a carpenter for drywall

Because we also do the framing before it and the trim after it, the drywall is planned around the finished room: straight corners where the casing goes and clean returns around windows. You deal directly with the owner, Jonas Zanini, from the estimate to the final walkthrough. Zanini Renovations is fully insured. We also take on drywall in condo units and commercial spaces, along with most of the other carpentry and renovation work we do in homes.

Drywall FAQ

Do you take small drywall repair jobs?

Often, yes. Send photos and the size of the area, and we'll let you know whether it's a fit.

Can you repair drywall after a leak or flood?

Yes, once the source of the water is fixed and the area has dried. We cut out the damaged drywall, install new board, and tape and sand it to blend with the existing walls. That's what we did in a Carleton Place basement with a 2 foot flood cut through two rooms and a hallway.

Do you prime and paint after taping?

Let us know if you'd like priming and painting, and we'll cover it when we go over the quote.

How do you keep dust under control?

Before the work starts, we'll go over how the area will be closed off and cleaned up, and we clean up at the end of the job.

Why does drywall take several visits?

Each coat of compound needs time to dry before the next one, so drywall takes several visits rather than one long day. Your schedule comes with the quote.
