Kitchen Remodels & Updates in Carleton Place and Ottawa

Kitchen remodel with custom cabinet doors and backsplash

A kitchen doesn't always need to be gutted to feel new. New cabinet doors, a better countertop, a backsplash and some well-placed storage can change how a kitchen looks and works for far less disruption than starting from scratch. We remodel kitchens with a carpenter's focus on fit and finish. Zanini Renovations has been a fully insured renovation business in Carleton Place since 2020, serving Lanark County and Ottawa.

What a kitchen remodel can include

Custom cabinet doors and drawers. If the cabinet boxes are solid, new doors and drawer fronts are one of the most effective upgrades there is. In a Nepean kitchen we built 16 custom flat-style cabinet doors in white with black bar pulls, plus four custom drawers. Every door and drawer runs on soft-close, full-extension hardware.

Countertops. Templating and installing new countertops, including breakfast bars and peninsulas. The same Nepean kitchen got dark matte countertops with a two-tiered breakfast bar. We'll go over countertop material options with you. Some materials are templated and fabricated by a supplier.

Sinks and faucets. That kitchen also got a large stainless steel undermount sink and a high-arc pull-down faucet.

Backsplash tile. In a Kanata kitchen we installed a honeycomb-style backsplash of white hexagon tiles with marble-like veining. It needed precise cuts around every outlet and corner and consistent grout lines to keep the pattern clean.

Built-in storage and pantry space. Floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets, open shelving, a coffee station or a built-in wall next to the kitchen. In the same Kanata home, the kitchen update was part of a bigger job that included a full-wall built-in and a new fireplace mantel. See custom built-ins.

Trim, drywall and flooring. Patching and finishing walls after old cabinets come out, new trim, and new flooring where the layout changes. See drywall, flooring and finish carpentry.

What other trades handle

A kitchen touches more trades than any other room. Electrical work (new circuits, under-cabinet lighting, outlets) and plumbing (moving a sink or adding a dishwasher line) are done by qualified, certified electricians and plumbers, and we arrange them as part of your project. Gas work, such as connecting a gas range, isn't included. Removing or moving a wall may need a structural engineer and a building permit. We can help with the permit application as an optional add-on, quoted separately, or you can handle it yourself. We'll be clear at the estimate about what we do and what others need to do.

Planning your kitchen

  1. Visit. We look at the kitchen, what works now and what doesn't, and which parts you want to keep.
  2. Scope. Doors only, doors and countertops, or a fuller remodel. Photos of kitchens you like are a big help, and we can build from an inspiration picture.
  3. Written estimate in Canadian dollars, labour-only or with materials, listing what's included and what other trades cover.
  4. Materials and lead times. We'll plan material orders and lead times with you, so the kitchen is out of action for as short a time as possible.
  5. The work and cleanup.

You'll get a schedule with your quote. Workmanship is covered by our one-year limited warranty. Countertops, sinks, faucets and tile carry their manufacturers' warranties.

Condo and commercial kitchens

We also take on kitchens and kitchenettes in condo units, rental units and workplaces, such as an office kitchenette or staff room. Condo buildings often have rules for working hours, elevator bookings and noise, so we'll check those first. In fact, our most recent kitchen was a condo project. Beyond kitchens, we've built a custom office desk at a client's workplace, and most of the carpentry and renovation work we do in homes, we also do in condos and commercial spaces.

Why hire Zanini Renovations for your kitchen

On a kitchen, small things add up: a door that doesn't line up, a countertop seam in the wrong place, a gap at the end of a run. We plan those details before the work starts, and you always know who to call. You deal directly with the owner, Jonas Zanini, from the estimate to the final walkthrough. Zanini Renovations is fully insured, and we can share our certificate of insurance before work starts.

Kitchen remodel FAQ

Can you update my kitchen without replacing the cabinets?

Yes, if the cabinet boxes are in good shape. New custom doors, drawer fronts, hardware, countertops and a backsplash can transform a kitchen while keeping the existing layout. In a Nepean kitchen we built 16 new doors and four drawers for the existing cabinets.

Do you install countertops?

Yes. We've templated and installed countertops, including a two-tiered breakfast bar. We'll go over material options with you; some materials are fabricated by a supplier.

Do you do the plumbing and electrical in a kitchen?

We arrange qualified, certified electricians and plumbers as part of the project and coordinate their work with ours. Gas work isn't included. Your written estimate sets out who does what.

Do you install tile backsplashes?

Yes. We installed a white hexagon tile backsplash in a Kanata kitchen, with precise cuts around outlets and corners.

How long will my kitchen be out of use?

It depends on the scope and on material lead times. We'll give you a schedule with your written quote.
