Flooring Installation in Carleton Place and Ottawa

Engineered hardwood flooring installation

A new floor changes how a whole room feels, but the difference between a good floor and a great one is in the edges: the cuts around door frames, the transitions between rooms, the vents, the stairs and the trim that finishes it off. We install flooring with a finish carpenter's eye, so those details are part of the job rather than an afterthought. Zanini Renovations has been a fully insured carpentry and renovation business in Carleton Place since 2020.

Floors we install

Engineered hardwood. Real wood on top of a stable core. It handles seasonal changes in humidity better than solid wood and works over more kinds of subfloor. In a home near Ashton, we installed engineered hardwood across a 240 sq ft room with precise cuts, clean transitions and flush-mount floor vents set into the boards.

Basement flooring. Basements sit on a concrete slab that can be cool and sometimes damp, so the floor choice matters. Vinyl plank, engineered wood, laminate and tile are common basement choices because they handle moisture and temperature changes better than solid hardwood. The right pick depends on the space, and we'll discuss it for your project. After a flood in a Carleton Place basement, we installed new flooring across two rooms and the hallway between them as part of the rebuild.

Upstairs and whole-floor replacements. Taking out old carpet and putting in new flooring across a whole level, often together with the stairs. See staircases.

Hardwood, vinyl, laminate and tile. Along with engineered wood, we install solid hardwood, vinyl, laminate and tile, so one company can look after the floors from the basement to the upstairs bedrooms.

Not sure which floor suits the room? We'll walk through the options with you, including how each one handles moisture, wear and the transitions to the rooms around it. Some jobs are small, like a single room or a hallway, and those are welcome too.

Preparation decides how the floor lasts

Most flooring problems trace back to what's underneath, so good prep usually involves:

  • Taking out the old flooring: carpet, pad, staples or old planks.
  • Checking the subfloor for flatness, squeaks and loose spots, and fixing them before anything goes on top.
  • Levelling where needed, because many floors need a flat base to perform well.
  • The right underlay for the product and the room, following the flooring manufacturer's instructions.
  • Acclimating the material as the manufacturer specifies.

We'll go over what your floor needs at the estimate.

Finishing: where a carpenter makes the difference

Once the floor is down, the trim decides how it looks. We reinstall or replace baseboards and add shoe moulding or quarter-round where it's needed. We fit transitions between rooms and different floor heights, install stair nosing where the floor meets the stairs, and set floor vents flush with the boards. That's the same finish carpentry we do on trim-only jobs.

How a flooring job works

  1. Visit and measure. We look at the rooms, the existing floor and the subfloor, and how the new floor meets the stairs and other rooms.
  2. Written estimate in Canadian dollars, labour-only or with materials, including removal, prep and trim.
  3. Material. You can buy your own flooring, or we can include materials in the estimate.
  4. Removal, prep, installation and trim.
  5. Cleanup.

You'll get a schedule with your quote. Our workmanship is covered by the one-year limited warranty on our warranty page, and the flooring itself carries its manufacturer's warranty.

Why one company for floor and trim

When one company handles the prep, the floor and the trim, there's no finger-pointing over a squeak, a gap or a bad transition. You deal directly with the owner, Jonas Zanini, from the estimate to the final walkthrough. Zanini Renovations is fully insured.

We also install flooring in condo units and commercial spaces. Condo buildings often have their own rules for underlay and sound control, so we'll check your building's requirements first. Beyond floors, most of the carpentry and renovation work we do in homes, we also do in condos and commercial spaces.

Flooring FAQ

Do you supply the flooring, or can I buy my own?

Either works. You can buy your own flooring and hire us to install it, or we can include materials in the estimate.

Can you install flooring in a basement?

Yes. We've installed new flooring in finished basements and in basements rebuilt after a flood. The right product depends on the slab and the moisture conditions, so we'll look at those first and go over the options. Vinyl plank, engineered wood, laminate and tile are common basement choices because they handle moisture and temperature changes better than solid hardwood.

Do you remove and dispose of the old flooring?

Removing the old flooring is part of the prep, and the estimate spells out what's included, so there's no guesswork about the old material.

Does engineered hardwood need to acclimate?

Most products do. Follow the flooring manufacturer's instructions, since they vary between products, and we'll plan the install around them.

Do you reinstall or replace baseboards after the new floor goes in?

Yes. Baseboards, shoe moulding, transitions and stair nosing are part of how we finish a floor, whether we reinstall the existing trim or put in new.
